As an oversubscribed school with specialist status in Performing Arts, we have chosen to admit 10% of our cohort based on aptitude and potential in Dance, Drama or Music as laid out in the DFE guidance for specialist schools.

“Performing Arts at AVS has meant everything to me"
 Daniel, AVS Class of 2015

Whilst a student at The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College Daniel had many opportunities to pursue his interest, and develop his ability, in the Performing Arts. In Year 9 Daniel completed a BTEC in Performing Arts, which led to him opting to study GCSE Drama. In addition Daniel also took extra singing lessons with a peripatetic music teacher.

In 2014 Daniel auditioned and was given a main role playing Raoul in the whole school production ‘Phantom of the Opera’.

Upon leaving The Avon Valley School Daniel enrolled on a two year Musical Theatre course at Stratford-upon-Avon College. 

 

“Discovered my love for Dance"

Bethany, AVS Class of 2012

Bethany worked towards, and achieved, qualifications in Performing Arts from Year 9 onwards, it was during this time that she "properly discovered her love for dance".

Bethany's dancing ability saw her audition for a role in the cast of for school's production of 'Back to the 80s' in which she featured as a main dancer who was selected by her Dance teacher to performed a duet.

Following her time at The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College Bethany studied Dance at Stratford-upon-Avon College and then chose to pursue the subject even further by becoming a full time student at Middlesex University.

Kate, AVS Class of 2013

Kate was involved in Performing Arts at all levels throughout her five years at The Avon Valley School and Performing Arts College, in recognition of her hard work and talent Kate won a number of awards for Dance, Drama and Music.

Some of Kate’s notable achievements include her being a part of an ‘acapella’ singing group which performed regularly in assemblies and showcase events. In addition, while in Key Stage 4 Kate auditioned and played Eponine, a main role, in the school’s large scale production of Les Misérables.

Upon leaving the school Kate progressed to study Musical Theatre at Stratford-upon-Avon College where she achieved the highest grade Distinction*. She has further progressed by studying a BA (Hons) in World Performance at East15 Acting School in Essex.

Jasmine, AVS Class of 2010

At The Avon Valley School Jasmine completed BTEC Performing Arts and had opportunity to play the role of Eponine in the large scale school production of Les Misérables.

After leaving she completed a BTEC in Musical Theatre at Northampton College, during that time she participated in Open Mic UK two years running and has since performed in one of the regional finals as a guest performer. While studying at college Jasmine worked with Big Help Management which gave her the opportunity to perform around the Midlands and in London.

Jasmine now has her own business as a singer and has performed at numerous events such as weddings and parties. She is now at university studying towards a BA (Hons) in Musical Theatre.

Libby, AVS Class of 2015

AVS is a place where creativity is welcomed. Throughout her time at AVS Libby was heavily involved with our Performing Arts department and regularly attended dance and drama club and sang with the school’s choir. Libby first took to the stage while in Year 7 when she performed in the ‘Into the Spotlight’ show. On a number of occasions Libby danced and played the piano during special assemblies. In Year 10 Libby was a principle dancer in ‘Les Miserables’ and she played the role of Meg in the main cast of ‘The Phantom of the Opera’.

Libby completed a Performing Arts course in Year 9, before progressing to study GCSE Dance and GCSE Media studies in Key Stage 4.

Upon leaving AVS Libby went to Lutterworth College Sixth Form where she completed a two year BTEC Dance course earning a Distinction*. Libby also studied AS Level Drama in which she achieved an A grade. While at sixth form Libby played major parts in two productions and took part in taster sessions at the London Festival of Dance. Libby is now preparing to start a three year course at university.
