Hot weather arrangements Monday 18th July & Tuesday 19th July

Dear Parents/Carers,

Following on from my letter of Friday, and in line with other secondary schools in Rugby, The
Avon Valley School will remain fully open on both Monday and Tuesday this week. However,
given the particularly high temperatures that are expected during these two days, we have
decided to offer parents and carers flexibility over whether your children attend school in
person. If you feel that your child is particularly susceptible to increased temperatures, or you
are worried about them travelling to and from school on the school buses, you may prefer to
keep them at home where they will be able to access their school work in the Google
Classroom. If you decide to keep your child/children at home, please ensure that they are not
in local parks, near open water or in public spaces as this presents a greater risk to their safety
than being in the school building. I’d like to remind you that if you child is attending school that
they are advised to wear their PE kits on Monday and Tuesday.
If you wish your child to stay at home for the two days, please complete the Google Form

The weather forecast currently shows that the temperatures will have dropped by Wednesday
when we are still planning to hold sports day. We will also reschedule the gold book award
assemblies to Wednesday or Thursday to ensure that all year groups have the opportunity to
celebrate success at the end of the school year.
I hope that these adjustments enable you to make the best choice for your child and your
personal circumstances over the next two days. If you have any further queries, please email
