Cultural and Creative Experiences
The Avon Valley School is very proud of its status as a performing arts college and each year admits 10% of its cohort based on their ability in the performing arts. We aim to provide all our students with a wide variety of opportunities for getting involved in the arts and the performing arts: through performance, technical support, appreciation of the arts, visits to theatres and galleries and exhibitions. The ability to think and work creatively has great benefits and supports students with their wider learning and in enabling them to manage challenges in their later working lives. Learning to perform and present confidently at school has a huge impact on the confidence that students will have as they move on from school into the outside world.
During Key stage 3 and 4 students will have the opportunity to:
-
Audition for a professional performance in the school’s biannual production
-
Have the opportunity to get involved in the technical support of a professional performance
-
Plan, prepare and deliver presentations in a variety of curriculum areas
-
Be taught by specialist dance, drama, art and music teachers
-
Take peripatetic music and singing lessons
-
Put on a musical performance for residents at a local care home
