Options
The curriculum in Years 7 and 8 is extended into Year 9 with the selection of 4 option subjects. The option subjects run alongside the core subjects of maths, English Language, English Literature, PE, Science and PSHE/RE and the ‘Learning 4 Life’ curriculum of History, Geography, Technology and Computing. In Year 9, all students also complete either the Bronze Arts Award in Art or the Performing Arts, or the Adventure Youth Service Challenge Award.
The range of options is extensive and aims to meet the interests and academic demands of all students, with a wide range of GCSEs and vocational courses. The EBacc route is available to 99% of students (the study of a Modern Foreign Language, History or Geography and 2 Science qualifications/ Computer Science) and as a Performing Arts College we offer discrete options in Dance, Drama, Music and Music Technology. Within some faculties, there is a choice of course to ensure optimum success and engagement for the individual learner; GCSE Media Studies and Creative iMedia; GCSE PE and OCR Sport Studies; GCSE Music and NCFE Music Technology.
For students wishing to pursue a highly academic pathway, they are able to study the separate sciences of Chemistry, Biology and Physics as well as choose both History and Geography and have the choice of two Modern Foreign Languages from French, Spanish and German. For students that require extra support to ensure excellent outcomes, we encourage Functional Skills in maths and English and entry level Science. At all times, the Careers Officer is available to meet with students and/or parents/carers.
